Inversion
"Being
'upside down', is a notion established by the laws of gravity, not
art."
The
collaboration with Tim Collier in Cardiff is ongoing and has
produced a substantial body of work. The first portfolio of
the images was greeted with great enthusiasm and shown in
several galleries such as G39 and The Brew House. One image
was used for the cover of Artists Newsletter and caused a
great deal of critical interest with readers. It also inspired
an open exhibition at the Stroud House Gallery with the theme
"Inversion". There is now a website dedicated to the
Inversion Project:
Inversion can be difficult to accept "upside down" even
though it might intrigue or stimulate us. We operate within
certain limits, parameters, that are acceptable and this
restricts and constrains our visual and imaginative potential.
The notion of the "right way up" come from the way
we move around and exist but it does not acknowledge how we
are capable of viewing the world. These images directly and
uncompromisingly turn us upon ourselves and our own banality,
they force us to reconsider, react, redefine our own procedure
and process of stability.
