“ART that doesn't sit on its ASS”
Andy Currie follows in the foot steps of the inspirational Claus
Oldenberg who was "for an art that does something other than sit on
its ass in a museum" and opened a "Store" cum gallery in New York
selling his ready-mades as quickly as he could make them.
Currie, inspired by this accessible act is turning 340 Old Street
into a Store and selling off his amazing artworks as he creates
them. He wants to treat his artworks like tins of beans which you
simply take off the shelf. "Non of the overpriced Britart here that
only the super-rich can afford, he wants his art to be sold at
prices people can afford. It is time artists became radical again,
things have become boring and predictable." Terry Duffy.
Curries kinetic “multiples” made from motors, fans and anything else
he can get his hands on have been described as “amazing and
profound“. They are regarded already as highly collectable and
normally sell for far more. His last show a year ago was a major
success and is still talked about and that’s not easy in a place
like Shoreditch with several exhibitions opening per day.
