"LAYERS"
These large works are inspired by the many layers of posters that can
accumulate on bill boards which he secretly removes at night and takes to
his studio. From there he projects the image of himself onto the surface
of the poster and cuts away the silhouette into the layers below. Some of
these works are then returned to their original bill board and process
starts again with further layers of transient information and promotion
being added as before. The difference is that his image, his identity is
enclosed within the time based layers of human promotional wastage. It is
an act of defiance, a cry in the dark, a need to make a mark on the ever
new promotional images that not only defines the passage of time but also
human endeavour, human weakness and how the machinery of promotion ignores
and swamps the individual.
His work is precise, profound and challenging aesthetically and
culturally.
